Frame-A-Face is used by companies around to accelerate their workflow, cropping hundreds of images for
website directories, school yearbooks, passport, id photos and more.
Dell modifies reference designs from Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA. The SM Bus Controller on a Dell Latitude 5490 uses a different hardware ID than the one on a Dell XPS 8930. Windows 10’s generic driver does not recognize Dell’s specific PCI vendor IDs (VEN_8086, VEN_1022, etc.) combined with Dell’s subsystem IDs (SUBSYS_1028...).
Windows 10 has an extensive built-in driver library, but it cannot include drivers for every proprietary chipset feature from every hardware generation. When Windows 10 is freshly installed on a Dell system, it loads generic Microsoft drivers to get the system running. The SM Bus Controller, being a very specific, low-level chipset component, is often left unrecognized. Consequently, Windows labels it as an "Unknown Device" or by its hardware ID, prompting the user to install the correct manufacturer driver.
